The early seeding work to be carried out at the FSRI may spawn a commercial marine tilapia aquaculture industry in South Africa worth R4.5Bn when scaled to 100,000 tonnes per annum (=Cape hake national annual quota) and an Atlantic salmon farming industry worth R1Bn to replace imports of around 5,000 tonnes per annum.
